State of immunosuppressive agents in organ transplantation.

چکیده
TRANSPLANT A nON has been built on the foundation of using drug thera.py to nonspecifically suppress the recipient immune response. Failure to achieve adequate immunosuppression is associated with a high incidence of graft loss from rejection. The present goal of immunosuppressive regimens is to suppress the immune response to the allograft while preserving sufficient immunity to avoid opportunistic infections and malignancies. In addition, these must be achieved while minimizing the inherent adverse effects of a particular drug. The ultimate goal of immunomodulation is to achieve donor-specific tolerance without alterations in immunity to other antigens. The purpose of this dissertation is to briefly summarize the mechanism and role of current and potential future immunosuppressive agents in solid organ transplantation. Since an exhaustive review of these agents is not possible, the reader is referred to a number of such reviews. 1-3

Immunosuppressive agents are used for induction (intense immunosuppression in the initial days after transplantation), maintenance, and revers...
متن کاملPediatric kidney transplantation: An overview
Kidney Transplantation in children is the treatment of choice to treat end stage renal disease. Improvements in immunosuppressive management have dramatically reduced the risk of early acute rejection and graft loss, however the long term results in terms of graft survival and morbidity still require search for new immunosuppressive regimens. Reducing of side effects are the challenges for impr...

Progress in understanding the cellular and molecular biology of the immune system, in the second half of the 20(th) century brings the transplantation of replacement organs and tissues in clinical reality to cure disease. Immunosuppressive agents that are part of nearly every transplantation procedure, are toxic to some extent and their chronic use predisposes the patient to the development of ...
